There is a rising movement right now

There’s a MLK quote that folks are saying at protests in the streets— “Riot is the voice of the unheard” but what is also important is the second part of that quote, “What is it that America is not hearing?” The vast majority of people are not being heard right now especially within the context of this election. Right now voter registration rates have plummeted in relation to the rates in the same months in 2016. Declines in voter registration rates have been as significant as 75% in some states. We have to ensure that the voice of our people, especially of our youngest people are heard now more than ever.

In the last election, less than half of college students made their voices heard by casting their ballots. This coupled with the rising movements and energy where many people including students’ are making it clear that our voices will not be silenced.

There is no longer any space for silent support, passive allyship, or words without action. As college student governments and organizations built to be the megaphone for students’ voices and issues on campus we know you can – and must – do more to support getting your fellow students registering and turning out in this year’s election.

This is why we are asking you to take the Generation Vote Pledge, making the commitment to ensuring that all students’ voices are heard and that all students’ have the access & opportunity to be heard and represented. This Generation Vote pledge is about doing that.
